I’m a intersectional feminist and a producer and director and a writer and a human woman. I am interested, above all things, in the feelings humans aren’t supposed to feel. Because I feel plenty of them.
I started writing because I was desperate to find people people who could hang with the messy experience of having a kid. I found it. For my time in the deep trenches of raising young humans, this was my soul project. When I’m not milking goats or producing and directing videos and podcasts for higher education or getting cheap creative thrills by writing stuff like this, I make orange macaroni and cheese out of the box and then promptly fall asleep on the couch.
Always enjoy your Vlogs, very interesting and well presented!
Thank you so much for plugging your blog on BPN! I have had so many of the same experiences from the “They grow up so fast…” to the “Look a Blue Ball (signed and annunciated!) It is so validating knowing I am the only one. I have been so surprised that even in my very progressive, feminist, queer social circle, so few people ever talk about the darker side of their parenting experience. If you haven’t already checked it out, I recommend Hillary Frank’s (a contributer to This American Life) blog and podcast The Longest Shortest Time (a brilliant title!). It attempts to address similar issues. Keep ’em coming!

Thank you right back!! I know, right???! How is it possible that as a progressive, feminist mama in Berkeley CA that I most-often feel like I’m surrounded by Stepford Wives when I try to talk about The Dark Side. And THANK YOU for the link to Longest Shortest Time. Incredible.
It’s me, anzhelo4ka from youtube! And I am finally getting the chance to check out your blog as you suggested. Really enjoying it so far!
Today a friend shared this with me and I thought of you.

Take care.
hooray! thanks for spending some time here…would love to hear what you think!
thanks for the link!
Thanks for the “like” – I was browsing your blog yesterday, too, and loving it. Yes – hear, hear – for the darker side of parenting which often isn’t shared even with friends – what’s that?? Go figure. I blog over at areyouthebabysitter.wordpress.com and sometimes dip into the darker side ~ and by day, I curate the blog for HealthConnect One, a non-profit supporting families during pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and early parenting. Happy to e-meet you!
Hooray! Happy to e-meet you too. Look forward to checking out your blog! And HealthConnect One sounds amazing…I’m a doula and want you to exist in the Bay Area too!
There have been some stirrings in the South Bay – and there are sites working to establish community-based doula programs in Berkeley and San Francisco. You can click on our National Site Map here, if you’d like more info – http://www.healthconnectone.org/pages/national_replication___community_based_doula/83.php – or email me at rphillips@healthconnectone.org. I’ll be back to visit soon! Happy Post-Halloween.

Thank you so much for sharing. I don’t even have kids, but I really relate to the way you describe the human experience so well. Thanks for a light in a dark time.
Kids or not, we ALL need a place to be messy and genuine. I really appreciate your comment!!
